Unviserity Project

Project Lazarus

Project Lazarus is a program through the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Rocket Development Lab. This project is based around the design and development of a Full scale 6 in rocket. The purpose of the rocket is to be used multiple times while integrating different payloads dependent on the particular payload being tested. I was part of the Propulsion team, where we focused on the development of the rocket's motor. The responsibilities of the propulsion team included designing the motor casings meant to be used throughout the lifespan of the project, characterizing propellant mixtures, developing the motor cases that have been designed, and eventually testing these designs.

We designed a 75mm solid propellant rocket motor and begun testing it. Once this motor has been tested, the project will move on to the design and development of a 6in solid propellant motor which will eventually be integrated into the final rocket system.

From this project I learned the use of Open Rocket, Open Motor, and Burn Sim software’s, as well as hands-on skills like building rocket motor cases and mixing the propellant in which the motor used during testing and final flight. This project also gave me the opportunity to work with a larger team and learn the dynamics of how a larger team works with different sub teams.
